Barbara Ficarra, RN, BSN, MPA, is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, speaker, media trainer, health expert and spokesperson. She is host and executive producer of the Health in 30® Radio Show, a program that empowers listeners to take charge of their health. Barbara is founder and editor-in-chief of Healthin30.com. Her blogs on Healthin30.com offer practical advice for spectacular health, focusing on prevention and patient empowerment.

Barbara is active on the front lines of health care, serving as administrative head nurse at a level 2 trauma center. She covers multiple medical and surgical units, including critical care, oncology, cardiology, women’s and children’s health, psychiatric inpatient and pediatric ER.  Barbara is patient advocate who encourages patients and their families to be proactive in their health and to always speak up and ask questions.

Barbara writes for Huffingtonpost.com and contributes to Healthandwellnessexpert.com, Healthcommentary.org, Helpchangehealthcare.com and Healthcare.com. A popular speaker at professional conferences, she has been faculty at the American Medical Association’s Medical Communications Conference from 2007 to 2009.  She serves on the Academy of Judges for the International Health and Medical Media Awards (“The Freddies”).

Barbara’s awards include the Journalism Award of Excellence from the American College of Emergency Physicians for her radio program “Ins and Outs of the ER.” She is President of Barbara Ficarra Productions, LLC.

Professional affiliations include New York Women in Communications, the Association of Health Care Journalists, Board of the National Association of Medical Communicators, & Advisory Board of the Medical Communications Conference.
