Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) are signaling their intent to lead the movement toward a preventive health care system . AMCs have two choices: Either lead the transformation or be left behind by the transformation.

Witness the recent release of the proceedings of the Johns Hopkins/Healthways 6th Annual Outcomes Summit. Fred Brancati, director of general internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said, “This year’s consensus report outlines the beginnings of a delivery model … that will improve lives and lower health care costs.” He added, “We’ve known for years that prevention works, and this report lays the groundwork for a national system that delivers on the promise of preventive care.”

Take a look at the three-page executive summary of the report. It lays out the key findings and is backed up by an 87-page full report.
